I joined my friend Amanda for a wine tasting event this week in the city. The evening was filled with lots of wine and little food, which meant my buzz came on early. At one point in the night, we decided a change of scene was needed and made our way to a booth at the back of the room. It was then that I spotted Michael Chiarello from the Food Network. He was attempting to part the red sea and make his way to the front of the room. Given my ever-so-slight spinning of the head and rosy cheeks, I stopped him dead in his tracks and blurted, "Michael Chiarello, I TiVo you." That wasn't it. I then went on to tell him how much I enjoyed his roasted banana, nutella, and toasted hazelnut recipe, and just how much of a hit it was at my camping trip the other week. He eventually found his exit and I was left to explain to Amanda the name behind that familiar face.
I realize it's been a while since my last post. To sum things up, I took two weeks off the bike and really had no problem doing a lot of nothing. The 26th Birthday was a great celebration with good friends that I was able to extend for several days. This week starts my first week back on the bike and second week of lifting. I'm very sore, but thrilled to be back in the saddle! We've received some exciting news about the new racing team which has lifted everyone's spirits another notch. And, most importantly, I am beginning my selection of songs for the Christmas album. Let me just say that this is the best list of tunes I think I have every put together. I can't wait!

I have loved Michael Chiarello's cooking since he started his place in the Napa valley ... before he became a TV personality. The other day I made up a batch of the filling for his roasted butternut squash ravioli and will finish putting together the pasta this weekend. Mmmmmm, tasty.
We'll be looking for you on the roads now that you are riding again.
Oh yeah, the ravioli was good! Did you ever see the episode where he was baking fish on cedar shingles for roofing? That was cool.
Let's ride some time soon. I'll be at the Bella CX clinic next Saturday if you want to go. Let me know.
yum... butternut squash. Sarah, did you hear about the track clinic next Saturday? Is this related to the Bella event or something different?
kim - the track clinic is the normal, almost-every-saturday beginner session, which starts at 8:30. Saturday from 11:30-2, Larry Nolan is also doing an intermediate training/racing clinic at the track, but you should probably do a beginner session first. You could double them up. c-rick might go to the intermediate thing.
The CX clinic is being hosted by the Bellas in Santa Cruz as an introduction to cyclocross for beginners. I'm going to do the clinic and then the race on Sunday.
Kim - the schedule for the Hellyer track is on-line here. And there is a Google Group where information is posted; that group is here .
CR-I'll let you know when I head to the track. The coach has me taking it pretty easy right now, but when that picks up I'd like to head down.
Chatty & CR, we need to host a dinner party at some point and discuss Chiarello secrets!
